Bio Rhizotonic by BIOCANNA is a 100% plant-based root stimulator, enriched with vitamins B1 and B2 and certified for organic growing. It helps cuttings, transplanted plants and stressed plants to rebuild a strong root system, at 20 to 40 ml per 10 litres of water, in soil, on coco fibre or in hydroponics.
The summary
- Composition: a 100% plant-based root stimulator with vitamins B1 and B2, OMRI certified.
- Dilution: 20 to 40 ml per 10 litres of water, at the base of the plant or as a spray.
- When to use: at transplanting, when taking cuttings and on a weakened plant, until the roots are well established.
- For aquaponics: in the nursery before the plants enter the system, or in a separate growing loop, never in the fish water.
Vigorous roots at transplanting and when taking cuttings, with a plant-based, certified organic product
Bio Rhizotonic by BIOCANNA is a plant-based root stimulator containing vitamins B1 and B2, OMRI-certified for organic growing. It is diluted at 20 to 40 ml per 10 litres, at transplanting and when taking cuttings, after which Bio Vega takes over the feeding. It stays out of the fish water in an aquaponic system.
Transplanting, repotting or taking a cutting deprives the plant of part of its roots, and it is during those few days that it is at its most fragile. Bio Rhizotonic, from the BIOCANNA organic range, is a liquid root stimulator that is 100% plant-based and enriched with vitamins B1 and B2. You use it to help your young plants regrow roots quickly, and to restore vigour to a plant that looks in poor shape.
The product carries OMRI certification, the American organisation that lists inputs approved for organic growing, and its packaging is itself certified for organic farming. The bottle, made of polyethylene free of PVC and cadmium, is easy to recycle. Bio Rhizotonic suits all grow media, from soil and potting compost to coco fibre, as well as hydroponic systems, so you can use the same product from the nursery through to the crop.
🌿 The role of a root stimulator
The plant absorbs most of its water and nutrients through its root hairs, tiny extensions located just behind the tips of the roots. They are the first to disappear during transplanting, and until they have re-formed, the plant wilts even in a moist grow medium. Bio Rhizotonic stimulates the formation of root hairs and the growth of root tips, so the roots colonise the new grow medium more quickly. This shortens the period during which the young plant remains vulnerable to drought and disease.
Keep the water lightly loaded during rooting
This stimulator performs best in water of low conductivity, because young roots tolerate a solution heavy in salts poorly. A pocket pH and EC tester lets you check your water before adding the product. You then know whether you can already add a light fertiliser or whether it is better to wait a few days.
Don't push fertiliser on a plant that is still rooting
Over-rich feeding damages the grow medium and the plant, and it is lost to the environment. On a stressed or freshly transplanted plant, give Bio Rhizotonic on its own for the first few days, without fertiliser, then reintroduce nutrition gradually once recovery is visible, with Bio Vega if you grow organically.
🌱 Three times to use it
Shake the bottle, then dilute 20 to 40 ml per 10 litres of water, which is a dilution of between 1 in 500 and 1 in 250. Apply the solution to the grow medium, as a spray on the foliage, or both, one to six times a day depending on the situation, until a vigorous root system has formed. When repotting, the most effective approach is to moisten the new grow medium with the solution before placing the rootball in it, so that the roots meet the product as soon as they grow out.
At transplanting
First water the new grow medium with the solution, then set the plant in this already treated potting compost.
On cuttings
One to six applications a day, at the base of the plant or as a spray, until the first solid roots appear.
Weakened plant
A few days of plain solution, without fertiliser, to revive a plant that looks in poor shape.
For cuttings, plant the stems in rockwool cubes or a light compost, keep humidity high under a lid, and spray the solution on the leaves and the base of the cuttings. Herbs such as basil, mint or sage respond particularly well. Stop the applications once firm white roots appear at the sides of the cube, a sign that the cutting is ready to move to its pot or grow basket.
🐟 The nursery of the aquaponic system
Bio Rhizotonic is designed for soil, coco fibre and hydroponics, and it must not be poured into water where fish live: its plant-based formula would add organic matter to the rearing water. It does, however, have its place just upstream of the circuit. You root your herb cuttings and young plants in the nursery, in treated cubes or pots, then place them in the grow bed once their roots are well formed. A plant that arrives already rooted suffers far less from transplanting than a cutting that is still fragile.
Rinse the root ball in clean water at the time of transfer, so that the nursery solution does not end up in the pond. In a decoupled installation, where the fish water feeds a separate growing loop that never returns to the fish, the product can also support the plants' recovery directly in that loop, as in any hydroponic system. The article on herbs in aquaponics presents the plants that root most easily from cuttings.
📦 Bottles and canister
At a dilution of 2 to 4 ml per litre, the 250 ml bottle makes 62 to 125 litres of solution, enough to support your cuttings and transplanting through a whole vegetable-garden season. The 1 litre bottle makes 250 to 500 litres and suits a family nursery or a greenhouse, while the 5 litre container is intended for regular seedling production. As the product is only used during the rooting phases, a small size lasts a long time.
Keep the bottle closed, in a dark place protected from frost and out of reach of children. Prepare the solution when you need it, in a quantity suited to the number of plants to be treated, rather than keeping it for several days in a sprayer exposed to light. Always shake the bottle before measuring out the dose so the extracts are evenly distributed, and rinse your sprayer with clean water after use so the nozzle does not clog.
