Phenol-free flexible pipe for filter, pump and aquaponic circuit
In your aquarium, as in an aquaponic system, the pipe carries water from one device to another: from the tank to the filter, from the filter to the grow beds, from the pump to the point of delivery. The EHEIM pipe is flexible, it bends without kinking, and it is made without phenol, which makes it safe in contact with the water your fish live in, fresh or marine. Its green colour blends into the decor of a planted aquarium; the anthracite version, in 16/22 mm, is more discreet behind a dark cabinet.
📏 Choosing the diameter
The two figures give the inside diameter, then the outside diameter. The inside diameter must match the outlet of your filter or pump: a 12/16 mm pipe fits onto a 12 mm outlet, and a 16/22 mm pipe onto a 16 mm outlet. Take an aquaponic system with two grow beds, connected to the fish tank by a pump and a filter in 16/22 mm, with 8 m of circuit: a 30 m roll covers this setup and leaves enough to modify it, whereas 3 lengths of 3 m would mean using far more fittings. In an aquarium, the EHEIM clip suction cups then hold the 9/12 to 16/22 mm pipe against the glass.

The 9/12, 12/16 and 16/22 mm are available in 3 m lengths, to connect a filter or a pump.
Per metre
The 25/34 mm is sold by the metre, cut to the length you need, for large fittings.
On a roll
Rolls of 30 to 70 m, plain or on a reel, are used for long circuits or for several tanks.
Made of anthracite
The 16/22 mm is also available in anthracite, more discreet behind dark furniture.
Unplug the filter without emptying the pipe
If your circuit runs through an external filter, a double EHEIM shut-off tap fitted on each pipe, on the intake and on the return, lets you take the filter out to clean it. You close both sides, separate the two halves by hand, and the water left in the pipe saves you from having to re-prime the circuit afterwards. The tap is available in 12/16, 16/22 and 25/34 mm, three of the diameters of this pipe.
A pipe that is too wide slips off the nozzle
A pipe whose inner diameter is larger than the nozzle will not grip: it leaks, then it can slip off under the pump's pressure and let the tank water drain out of the circuit. So measure the nozzle before ordering, and push the pipe on right to the end of the ridges. Check the fittings at start-up, then after every clean.
🌱 In aquaponics
An aquaponic system runs day and night, often outdoors, and your pipes foul up on the inside with biofilm and fish waste. Allow for a generous diameter on the gravity return, which flows without pressure, and clean the pipes with a bottle brush once or twice a year.
