Aeroponic lid with 5 baskets for 45 L reservoir
This lid is the original part for the CultiMate Aero aeroponic pot: it sits on the 45 L reservoir, holds 5 baskets and lets the spray bars pass through. It is available with 5 or 8 cm holes.
The summary
- What you receive: the lid only, with 5 holes of 5 or 8 cm.
- Which pot it fits: the 45 L reservoir of the CultiMate Aero aeroponic pot.
- Which diameter: the same as your current baskets, 5 cm for cuttings and seedlings, 8 cm for a plug.
- What is sent to you: a flat parcel of about 0.64 kg.
Replacement part for the aeroponic pot, 5 slots of 5 or 8 cm and an access hatch
This lid is the part that closes the 45 L reservoir of the CultiMate Aero aeroponic pot. It carries the 5 baskets in which your seedlings are held, lets through the tube coming from the pump and the two spray manifolds, and keeps the solution in the dark. You order it with 5 or 8 cm holes, depending on the baskets your pot uses, to replace a cracked, warped or lost part without buying the whole system again.
The slots
Five holes each take a slotted basket, and so one plant, at the centre and the four corners of the lid.
The access hatch
A hinged hatch gives you access to the solution and the pump without lifting the lid or disturbing the roots.
The passages
A central hole lets the pump tube through, and two small openings guide the spray lines towards the reservoir.
The reservoir
The lid sits on the 45 L reservoir, which is common to the range's aeroponic pot and hydroponic pot.
🛠️ When to replace it
A cracked lid lets light reach the nutrient solution, which encourages algae to proliferate in the tank and around the roots. It also lets some of the spray escape, so the level drops faster between visits. You should therefore replace it as soon as a crack goes through the wall, or as soon as warping stops it sitting flat on the rim of the tank. The change takes only a few moves, since the pump, the spray bars and the baskets stay the same and simply refit onto the new part.
📐 Two hole diameters
The version with 5 cm holes takes baskets suited to cuttings on a neoprene disc and to seedlings in a rock wool cube, while the version with 8 cm holes accepts baskets that hold a shop-bought plug. For a straightforward replacement, take the diameter of your current lid and keep your baskets. This lid also lets you change format without changing pot: you simply need to allow for 5 baskets of the new diameter, which you fill with a plant that already has roots. The article on grow pots details what each diameter accepts.
A spare pump for bare roots
When you replace the lid of a pot that has been running for several seasons, take the opportunity to check the condition of the pump. The whole aeroponic crop depends on it, because bare roots deprived of misting dry out in 1 to 2 hours in hot weather. With the 600 L/h submersible pump kept in reserve, you can replace a seized pump in a few minutes instead of watering the roots by hand.
The flap closes again after each check
Close the hatch as soon as you have read the level or adjusted the pH. The light reaching the nutrient solution makes algae proliferate there, which then clog the diffusers and compete with your plants. For the same reason, a basket that has been removed should be replaced straight away, or its hole covered until a new plant is ready.
🔧 Refitting onto the reservoir
Switch off the pump before lifting the old lid, then take out the baskets, keeping the roots moist. The rigid tube leading from the pump comes away from the Y fitting, and the two spray bars come out through their small openings. You then place the new lid so that its central hole sits above the pump, pass the tube back through it, then refit the Y fitting and re-engage each spray bar in its opening. All that remains is to check that the two 180° diffusers are spraying towards the inside of the reservoir, before putting the baskets back in place and reconnecting the pump.
🧽 Cleaning the lid
Rinse the lid in clean water each time you change the solution, at the same time as the diffusers, because salts build up on its underside where the spray reaches it. A stubborn white deposit comes off with diluted white vinegar, followed by a thorough rinse so as not to alter the pH of the next solution. Between two crops, store it flat and dry, which stops it warping and ensures it will sit flat again on the rim of the reservoir.
