Iron is the most common deficiency in aquaponics: young leaves turn yellow while their veins stay green. Chelated iron supplies protected iron that remains available to the roots. Choose the form according to the pH of the water: EDTA stays stable up to a pH of about 6.5, DTPA up to about 7.5, and EDDHA up to 9, which makes it the form for hard, alkaline water.
DTPA is the most common choice in aquaponics, where pH usually sits between 6.8 and 7.2. All these forms are dosed in small amounts, and the result shows on the new leaves. The articles Iron deficiency in aquaponics and Plant deficiencies in aquaponics explain the diagnosis in detail.
